Dr. Fateama S. Fulmore Officially Sworn-in as Superintendent of NOLA-PS by OPSB

(New Orleans – April 17, 2025) — The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) celebrated the official swearing-in of Dr. Fateama S. Fulmore as Superintendent of NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) this evening, in the OPSB board room. The ceremony, held immediately following the OPSB Business meeting, was followed by a reception honoring Dr. Fulmore's appointment. She will serve as Superintendent effective April 17, 2025, through June 30, 2028.

Dr. Fulmore, who has served as Interim Superintendent since prior to her selection, was offered the permanent role by the OPSB on April 2, 2025. With more than 20 years of experience in PK-12 education, Dr. Fulmore brings a wealth of expertise from her roles as a teacher, principal, executive director, and deputy superintendent in urban school districts.

"Words cannot fully express how humbled and honored I am to serve as the superintendent of NOLA Public Schools," said Dr. Fulmore. "As we embark on this next chapter, I pledge to lead with my core values: putting students first, leading by example, and striving for excellence in education. My dreams have come true, and I am committed to ensuring our kids can see their dreams come true, too."

"On behalf of the board, I'm excited to officially welcome Dr. Fulmore as our permanent Superintendent," said OPSB President Katie Baudouin. "Her proven leadership, particularly in navigating complex challenges, has already strengthened our district's foundation. I am confident that her vision and dedication will continue to elevate graduation rates, open pathways to college and meaningful careers, and inspire excellence across NOLA-PS."

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a first-generation college student, Dr. Fulmore overcame significant adversity to become a transformative educational leader. She holds a B.S. from Appalachian State University, an M.A. from Gardner-Webb University, an Ed.S. from Grand Canyon University, and an Ed.D. from Gwynedd Mercy University. Recognized for Excellence in Authorizing by the Louisiana Department of Education, she is a licensed Louisiana superintendent and a graduate of the Michael Casserly Urban Executive Leadership Institute for Superintendents.

Dr. Fulmore's vision for NOLA-PS includes fostering collaboration among the board, staff, students, families, and community partners to position the district as a national model for educational excellence. She looks forward to releasing her entry plan next month.
