- Introducing Mental Minute:
- The Mental Minute campaign, a vital initiative developed under the umbrella of NOLA-PS CAREs (CAREs - Community Access to Resources and Equity – is a program that marshals mental health resources, literacy, and career development under a single umbrella, and creates a federation of support services). Developed in partnership with The Blairisms, the campaign aims to bolster the mental health of scholars, families, and faculty across Orleans Parish by providing essential tools to cope with stress, reduce anxiety, and enhance emotional resilience. This resource is intended to help everyone within the NOLA-PS community take time to ground themselves with a simple mindfulness exercise, recognize moments of anxiety and stress, and develop healthy methods of communication and conflict resolution.
- Join the Campaign
- Everyone is encouraged to take mental minutes throughout their day. Educators are encouraged to begin and end the period of instruction with a mental minute. It will help students ground themselves at the beginning of the class period and prepare them to transition to the next space with focus and intention. Community stakeholders are encouraged to place Mental Minute flyers and posters throughout their places of business, church, and homes. Email the NOLA-PS team at nolapscares@nolapublicschools.com for Mental Minute resources or partner with us!
- When to Take a Minute
- Again, EVERYONE is encouraged to take mental minutes throughout their day. Educators are encouraged to begin and end the period of instruction with a mental minute. It will help students ground themselves at the beginning of the class period and prepare them to transition to the next space with focus and intention. Instances where students or faculty members become incensed or emotional, calmly and slowly encourage them to take a mental minute. You can complete the breathing exercise with them, and both of you should feel better after one minute.
