NOLA-PS Launches its 2022 Mardi Gras Mask and Float Decorating Contest

This is a unique way for 45,000+ students to celebrate Mardi Gras & encourage them to display their Mardi Gras spirit.

(New Orleans – February 8, 2022) – Mardi Gras is back! As our city brings back the cultural tradition of parade season, we still want to celebrate safely and bring attention to unique reminders to mask-up during the carnival season. We are excited to bring back the "Celebrate Safely!" Mardi Gras Float and Mask Decorating Contest via social media to display our students' creativity. Last year, we used this contest as a safe way to help students celebrate the season and encourage them to continue to be diligent about wearing face masks. And due to the great response in 2021, we are eager to see what students produce.

We're asking our more than 45,000 students to display their creativity and decorate a shoebox float, a Mardi Gras mask, or a protective face covering.

Once decorated, students need to take a picture of themselves with their design and submit photos of the item(s) to nolapsfloatcontest@gmail.com.

Students can also tag the District in the photos to showcase their work to the public (NOLA Public Schools handles: Facebook @NOLAPublicSchools, Instagram @nolaps and Twitter @NOLAPSchools). NOLA-PS will then select a winner and award the student with a social media shout-out and NOLA-PS prize.

The contest ends Friday, February 18. The winners will be revealed by Friday, February 25. Winners will receive a special NOLA-PS item and have their entries showcased on a "parade route of New Orleans leaders". Winners and other entries will be showcased during the peak of parade season until Ash Wednesday.

Please help us get the word out to our students and families, via this fun, informative video:
