OPSB Excels in Mandatory Training and Celebrates Two Board Members for Earning 2024 LSBA Certificate of Merit

(New Orleans – March 26, 2025) — The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB), which oversees NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS), proudly announces that its board members have completed the mandatory ethics training and instruction requirements for the 2024 calendar year, as outlined in OPSB Policy and ACT 705 of the 2011 Louisiana Legislature. In addition, NOLA-PS is excited to celebrate Vice President Leila Jacobs Eames and board member Carlos Zervigon for receiving the prestigious Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) Certificate of Merit for 2024, recognizing their exceptional dedication to public education.

Under ACT 705, each OPSB member is required to complete a minimum of six hours of comprehensive training annually, covering critical topics such as Louisiana school laws, the powers and responsibilities of city and parish school boards, and current educational trends, research, and policy. Members have the flexibility to fulfill this mandate through programs offered by in-state higher education institutions, the State Department of Education, in-service training from the OPSB central office, the LSBA, or national training initiatives. Additionally, each member must complete one hour of ethics training annually to uphold the highest ethical standards during their tenure.

In a further demonstration of their commitment to excellence, Vice President Leila Jacobs Eames and Carlos Zervigon have earned the LSBA Certificate of Merit for 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights their completion of the LSBA Certified Board Member Program and the accumulation of twenty or more continuing learning units through workshops, seminars, and conventions.

NOLA-PS extends its gratitude to all OPSB members for their steadfast commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical standards. The community is invited to join in applauding Vice President Jacobs Eames, Mr. Zervigon, and the entire board for their outstanding contributions to public education.
