WHAT: The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) will be hosting two meetings remotely on Tuesday, March 24. The Orleans School Facilities Foundation (OSFF) Meeting and the OPSB Board Business Meeting will be accessible to the public via teleconference/video conference. The meetings are being held remotely in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 and to preserve the health and safety of all members of the public. The OPSB will utilize the online platform Zoom to live-stream meetings, which will be open for the public to view and participate in online or via phone. The board will consider a series of action items. Both agendas will be posted publicly no later than 24 hours in advance of the meetings here. Public comments will be accepted during the live stream of the meeting.

The live stream will be available here beginning at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24. To comment online, please use the “raise hand” feature at the bottom of the web page. The meeting moderator will announce the speaker and unmute audio at the appropriate time. Dear NOLA-PS community,

As promised, I wanted to update you on the progress we are making on school bus safety.

As you know, we issued a deadline of February 13th for schools to report their status on ensuring all their buses are fully compliant with the city’s inspection process. As of today, nine out of thirteen school organizations have reported that they are in full compliance with the inspection process. The remaining four school organizations have demonstrated significant progress towards full compliance and will be given extensions to comply with the inspection process.

WHAT: On Thursday, March 12 at 9 a.m., the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) will hold a public work session to discuss the following topics:

  1. Coronavirus Information and Preparedness
  2. Board Vacancy Discussion and Planning
  3. Board Vision and Goals Review

Did you know that the NOLA-PS Office of Student Support and Attendance and School Resource Officers canvassed the New Orleans community to partner with businesses that support daily school attendance according to New Orleans Local Ordinance 54-414. 

Are you supposed to be in school? Is it Monday-Friday between 9:00am and 2:00pm? Because this business cares about your education, we participate in the attendance advocate program. Our pledge. We will not sell to or service school-aged students during school hours. We will notify the Truancy Center that you are not in schoool. For more information, please contact NOLA Public Schools.
