Public Hearing Scheduled by Orleans Parish School Board to Discuss Millage Rates

New Orleans, Louisiana – [December 19, 2023] – In accordance with Article 7, Section 23 (C) of the Louisiana Constitution and R.S. 47:1705(B), the Orleans Parish School Board has announced a public hearing slated to take place on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. The hearing will convene at the regular meeting place located at 2401 Westbend Parkway, New Orleans, Louisiana 70114.

The purpose for this public hearing is to consider levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval or adopting the adjusted millage rates not to exceed the prior year’s maximum.

The Orleans Parish School Board anticipates an estimated tax revenue collection of $244,926,239.00 in the forthcoming year if the increased millage is implemented. Of this amount, $29,667,194.00 is attributable to the proposed millage increase.

All concerned parties and stakeholders are encouraged to attend this pivotal meeting to gain insights into the proposed changes, voice their perspectives, and contribute to this critical dialogue that directly impacts the community's educational infrastructure.

The Board extends an invitation to residents, taxpayers, and interested individuals to participate actively in this significant event, which seeks to ensure transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making regarding the financial future of the Orleans Parish School District.
